The Derby: San Paolo 12 - 2 Eurizon
Welcome to the fifth match of the Corporate Liga Lux.  Read All

Dear all, welcome to the fifth match of the Corporate Liga 09/10

Referee of the day is Mr Andrè Urbing, of Federation Luxembourgeoise de Football,  who devolves his emolument to “Doctors without borders” .  He congratulates for the fair play showed in the field.

Welcome to the first match of 2010. As every year, many players are still under “Christmas” influence, with full stomachs and tired legs. We suggest as always a good training.

The tournament in entering now in its second part. Last year teams had the time to increase harmony of the team and to get in use to play on our field. From now on, no more excuses. At the end of the season, there will be only one….

Sanpaolo vs. Eurizon   12-2

Big match of the evening. Another derby inside Intesa Sanpaolo. The last matches were always in favour of Sequi and Co., who has never had piety for his cousins. Carlo Liguori always without a real goalkeeper, but with a D’Esposito full of energy and vitality; Gigliotti and Leone in defence, with Jean Paul Machado having to play against his brother Rui. A derby in the derby. On the other side, Friggione was back after a long time.

The match started in relatively sedate fashion as both teams seemed unwilling to take unnecessary risks. Leone and Schifano shooted from far, to avoid the Friggione (a wall in the defence), while Giovanni Sequi is always the terminal of every action of Sanpaolo, very well supported by Bogusz, day by day more necessary for this team.

However well motivated, Eurizon had to close the first half with a passive of three goals.

Without Bernasconi and Magnani, the second period was less straightforward. Eurizon was without hope, and Giovanni didn’t give them neither an opportunity to think about a recovery.

Best players: Friggione  and  JP Machado

Fair play: R. Machado  and  Leone

Mizuho vs. Cetrel   7-6

Bookmakers bet easily on Mizuho, as Cetrel has never won a match in our tournament; but since today, they will change opinion: best match since two years for the White Lions (a merited nickname). Leaded by a fantastic Lambiase, they played till the last minute against a strong Mizuho.

An equilibrated match, with neither team in condition to gain supremacy. Cetrel was quite motivated, applying a correct pressing with many less errors in defence. To note the different scheme applied by the two teams: Mizuho has in cap. Silva his best player and striker (five goals for him today), while Cetrel has not an impressive striker, but goals could come from any one.  The first half closed 6-5 for an enthusiastic Cetrel.

In the second half Mizuho began confidently, but White Lions didn’t let the supremacy, with Lambiase providing assists and support  to all his team. But however the good will, a Silva’s hat trick changed the score, giving the three points to Mizuho.

Christmas holidays gave to Cetrel the necessary force (physical and psychological) to start in the optimal way this 2010. If they will continue in this way, the first victory will come soon, maybe also BBH in the next match.

Best players:  Silva and  Lambiase

Fair play: the two goalkeepers,  Kazantzoglou and Martinet

BBH  vs. BoNY  8-4

Interesting and equilibrated match. Both teams are in the middle of the list, playing a good soccer but without being in the top positions. Not easy for bookmakers to forecast the final score.

The opening was cautious, both teams ready to counter attack, with opportunities coming from any position. Good physical condition for both teams, with respective goalkeepers attentive but not under pressure. The game took some time to warm up, but than a very good Lor (three goals for him today) opened the score. On the other side, Mehl showed an exceptional control and athleticism, creating the more dangerous occasions for his team. First half 2-1 for Whites.

Second half satisfied more the audience in terms of goals.  BoNY first draw and after took the score 3-2 for them.

In a bid to regain the initiative, BBH  coach, player and president Al Chentouf decided to enter in action, leading his team to the victory, supporting (also from the bench) and giving the right suggestions to Olivier and Elio to score.  On the other side, further opportunities came always from Mehl, but he needed to be more supported by his team.

BBH won three important points, starting the 2010 in the best way.

Best players: Lor  and  Mehl

Fair play:  Al Chentouf  and  Fernandes

Next week the big match Fidelity against PwC. Who will follow Sanpaolo and Ferrero at the top?
